A local museum inherited a Chagall print called “Daphnis and Chloe”. The print was an interpretation of the ancient Greek story of Daphnis and Chloe, two lovers similar to Romeo and Juliet. I was asked to create an interpretation of the Chagall print and story using glass. I researched famous lovers throughout history from Shakespeare to today’s pop culture iconic couples. I saw how the story of Daphnis and Chloe was interpreted through music, ballets and plays and is timeless. I incorporated passages from the original Greek script, as well as ancient and contemporary photos supporting the idea. I created a stained glass panel of Daphnis and Chloe and centered it in the design. I connected the photos with images of my own work and used a silver acrylic thread to give the appearance of stitching each image together.
