Cast glass and oil painting on wood board
9 by12 inches
Last summer instead of having vegetables I grew Dahlia’s. I began to compile a photographic diary of their life cycle. Shapes as well as shades of color change as time passes, so very similar to us. The Japanese believe in what they call “Wabi Sabi”, finding beauty in deterioration and imperfection. A friend of mine Jiri Harcuba introduced me to this idea years ago. I saw the essence of Wabi Sabi in this flower and sculpted it in its decline, which turned out to be quite beautiful. It is also part of my exploration into combining glass painting and photography.
